Next Tuesday there is a mandatory two-hour course on campaign practices, finance, and ethics at the Eagle Ridge Conference Center at Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS. My campaign manager, Ryan Schilling, and I will be going there to learn the rules and pitfalls of campaign financing. Wednesday, we'll be working on the campaign in earnest.

Due to many client phone calls yesterday morning, I missed the Law Enforcement Memorial.

Campaign update

Yesterday I was in the County Courthouse in Hattiesburg reviewing a case file that's been sitting kind of dormant for a while. When I left the Courthouse, I ran into Judge Helfrich, who commented that I was dressed quite casually (I was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and my Birkenstocks). I told him that I had been working at home all day, and didn't have to be in court or see any clients.

He then asked me when my campaign was starting.

That's the question on everyone's lips: when are you starting the campaign?

Well, there's a campaign ethics meeting next week that all first-time candidates and their campaign committee chairs are to attend in Raymond. So I decided to wait until then before I formally kick off the campaign. I will be making an appearance tomorrow morning at the Forrest County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony that the Sheriff is holding.
