"I'm running because it's an important task to be a judge and it's an open seat and the way judicial elections are worked here, incumbency is incredibly powerful," Ignatiev, 30, said.
He said the seat presents an opportunity for him as a younger lawyer to get involved in the judicial system and make connections politically, for his law practice and for future political and future business opportunities as well.
Ignatiev said he believes that he brings two things to the race - youth and vigor because of his age, and a desire to work hard and succeed in the office.
"The other candidates are looking at making this the capstone of their career. I'm looking at this to build a strong foundation for my (legal) career," he said.
Because many of the divorce cases in chancery court involve people his age - the late 20s and early 30s, he said, he understand a lot of the problems that young people have.
"People should vote for me because I'm not more of the same old thing," Ignatiev said. "I'm not from Mississippi (and) I've got a wide range of personal experiences. Because I'm a transplant, I bring different experiences (to the court).
"I'm young and hard working and fundamentally really interested in this job, and I would do a fine job." Well, we'll see what the electorate thinks of my interview. I wish I had responded in written form, because I don't care for some of the punctuation. Ah, well.
